Anchored by the luxurious and historic, five-star Ocean House Resort & Spa in Watch Hill RI, the Ocean House Management Collection includes a select few Relais & Chateau hotels and resorts in New England. Over the past ten years I’ve been honored to make photographs for their digital and print marketing collateral, cookbooks and coffee table books.
Shot over a few days last fall, this project was to create marketing photographs of some new experiences at a few different properties: the Whispering Angel Culinary Garden at the Inn at Hastings Park (Lexington MA), the Maker’s Mark Hobbit House at the Preserve Sporting Club (Richmond RI) and the Pavillion at The Weekapaug Inn (Weekapaug RI).
One of the things I love about my work is the variety of things I am asked to photograph in any given day or project. Architecture, food, people, textures, lifestyle, etc. Each object or situation has a unique story and my job, with my tools, is to capture that three-dimensional spirit in the two-dimensions of a screen or a page within print collateral.
I am often asked, “What is your favorite thing to photograph?” Honestly, I have trouble answering the question. I’m a lifelong learner and, as a fellow photographer once said to me, the camera is like a ticket to the front row of learning about everything. Everything has a story and I try to make photographs that reflect those stories.
